Large Fairlight Bowl in Patterned Beech

Handcrafted in our Fairlight shape, the straight side of this bowl shows this amazing timber off to its fullest.

To produce this unique material fallen Beech trees are left on their sides for between 3-5 years and during this time various creatures cause the patterns as they break the log down. Once the wood is milled and dried the beautiful results are locked in place waiting to be revealed by our chisels. Between the time in the forest and then air drying it can be 6-8 years after the tree was felled before we get our hands on this material and our challenge is to make sure that we do it justice and turn something truly beautiful from it.

Finished with a blend of natural plant oils and waxes that retain the natural colour of the wood as it came from the tree.

Due to the natural knot and splits visible in the top-down images this piece is recommended for dry use only.
